Obituary for Joseph J. Volcko

Joseph J.  Volcko
Joseph J. Volcko, 86, of Camillus, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, February 3, 1920, he was the son of Dorotin Volcko and Elizabeth Contos. He was a 1937 graduate of East Syracuse High School and lived at Warners Rd., Camillus for 48 years.

Joe was employed by Jaquith Industries for 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was also formerly employed by Lenox Manufacturing. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Joe was a member of the 406th Fighter Group. He traveled with the Civil Conservation Corps to Idaho to plant trees. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

Joe also enjoyed playing poker and pitch with family and friends, watching sports on television, going to the casino and going out to breakfast with family.

Joe's first wife, Frances, died in 1951 and his second wife, Wanda, died in 1993. He was also predeceased by his brothers, John and Andrew Volcko, and sister, Yolanda Kilcoyne.
Surviving are his daughters, Loraine Currier and Dorothy Sutton, both of Syracuse; sons, Joseph Volcko of Syracuse, David (Sharon) Volcko of Baldwinsville and David Wilson of Syracuse; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Volcko of East Syracuse, Loretta Hartung of California; brothers, Frank Volcko of East Syracuse, Edward Volcko of Syracuse, Paul Volcko of Florida and William Volcko of Sandy Creek.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Tuesday, September 19, 2006 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
