Obituary for William A. "Whitey" Kwiek, Sr.

William A. "Whitey"  Kwiek, Sr.
William A. Whitey Kwiek, Sr., 77, of Camillus, died Monday, September 5, 2005 at home with his family at his side. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, September 18, 1927, he was the son of John and Sophia Kwiek.

Bill was a retired supervisor at Super Foods in Syracuse. He was also formerly employed by the A&P Warehouse for 31 years. He was a member of the Teamster's Union and the PACC Fisherman's Club. An Army veteran of World War II, Bill served from 1945-1947 and received the World War II Victory Medal and Meritorious Service Unit Award. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

Bill was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener, a man of amazing perseverance and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a gentle and kind soul who loved life and people. He had the ability to always make everyone feel special.

True to his Polish heritage, Bill passed many customs onto his children and grandchildren. He was a hero to many.

Bill was predeceased by his twin brother Richard Lefty , two sisters, Helen and Virginia and four brothers, John, Joseph, Chester and Stanley.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Genevieve Surowiec; children, M. Laurie and James Israels of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bill and Cheryl Kwiek, Jr. of Baldwinsville, David and Lisa Kwiek of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Richard and Lisa Kwiek of Marcellus and Ann Kwiek and Tom Lavere of Syracuse; sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Walter Tyszka of Camillus; grandchildren, Jennifer, James, Billy, Christina, Nick, Molly, Matt, Lexie, Jordan, Chelsey and Thomas; sister-in-law, Ann Wolak of Utica and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Wednesday, September 7, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Syracuse.

Contributions may be made to the Holy Family Food Pantry, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219 or to W.A.V.E.S., 202 Bennett Rd., Camillus, NY 13031.
